Cultural Perspectives
In this unit, we will be discussing cultural perspectives and how they have changed world history. Driving question: How can our perspectives make a difference in the world?
Unit Objectives & What to expect in the next few weeks of technology class:
Before we begin our series of lessons, you should know what our ultimate project will be.
We will be taking up basic school supplies for a small school in a village called Pueblo Modelo near Zacapa, Guatemala.
Here's the LETTER sent home to families of 5th graders.
Here are some inexpensive options for you to consider:
· Pencils…even just one
· Glue sticks
· Rulers
· Crayons
· Colored pencils or markers
· Erasers
· Child scissors (lightweight)
· Other lightweight ideas?
· NO PAPER/CONSTRUCTION PAPER…due to weight for shipping
I would ask that each person who would like to donate also send in $0.25 to help pay for the cost of shipping.

- and possibly some optional videos about children in other countries who are living in places where they do not have the same opportunities we have here. (Depends on time)

- We will be joining the art class to make cultural perspective glasses to symbolically demonstrate the lenses we use to "see" the world. What do we have in our own lives that "color" or form the way we see our world?
- These glasses will be displayed as an art installation throughout the school.
- We will be joining the Huskies at Hebron Valley Elementary on an online bulletin board to add our post-it notes about these topics:
- ...because I am educated... - Privilege
- ...because I am a friend... – Peacemakers
- ...because I have respect for others... – Human Rights
- ...because I have HOPE and JOY...-Share that with others
- ...because I have skills and talents...Exploring WHO you really are

Week 4: Adding a "Dream to the King Center Website
- We will look at the awesome dreams that have been shared so far, and then add you can add one of your own.
Week 5: Preparing our Gift
- We will create bookmarks on the computer. On the back, we will be handwriting a personal message to encourage the students in Guatemala to keep going strong in their education. We will type up our message and using a translator, print it out in Spanish for them.
